Family: Cruz Hernandez
Region: Chiapas, Mexico
Technique: Metalwork / Metalisteria & Gold Leaf Gliding
The Hernandez-Cruz family has been crafting metal home décor for generations. Though a small family business, they employ extended family members from their community. They create colorful frames, mirrors, and lanterns from tin, often using the ancient gilding technique—applying thin sheets of gold or gold-colored leaf for decoration. This method, long used in Mexico, adds elegance to their work. The artisans also work with copper, silver, and iron to craft both decorative and functional pieces.
